I was born and raised in Ohio. My parents started to attend what eventually became Countryside Chapel in 1965 when Homer Kandel was the pastor. I grew up and was saved in CSC.
In 1979 God led me to a Bible college in Portland, Oregon, then known as Multnomah School of the Bible. While there I met my wife Sharon. We both graduated from Multnomah in the early 1980’s and moved to Alaska in 1983. The Lord blessed us with three children over the next 8 years. Our early years in Alaska were spent in remote areas gold mining and commercial fishing. In 1986 God called us into bio-vocational ministry and I had the privilege of serving a small church in rural Alaska for 24 years.
A ministry opportunity at Countryside brought us back to Ohio in 2012. CSC embraces what I am passionate about: an unwavering commitment to the Word of God and the Gospel, a team approach to ministry, an emphasis on Biblical discipleship, a vision to plant churches and a passion to reach lost people. We feel blessed to be a part of this church family.
Sharon and I experienced God’s grace in tragedy when our son Ryan died in an accident in 2013. Our oldest daughter Melissa along with her husband Jamie and their children and our youngest daughter Rachel live in Anchorage, Alaska. Sharon and I love to spend time with our children and grandchildren. She enjoys quilting, while my favorite hobbies are biking and hiking back roads and dirt track sprint car racing. We both enjoy traveling and having friends over to sit around a back yard fire.
